How To Troubleshoot A Slow Running PC

 

 

If your computer is running slowly, there are a few things that you can do to help address the problem. These include basic solutions that can help to figure out why a computer may be operating a slower pace than usual. More advanced solutions may require professional assistance. Read below to find tips for troubleshooting a slow running computer. 

 

Steps To Be Followed:-

1. Check for spyware and viruses. Spyware and viruses are a common source of computer problems. Do a scan for spyware, viruses, and malware using anti-spyware and anti-virus programs. You can purchase these programs at computer, electronic, and office supplies stores, or download them from trusted sources on the Internet.
2. Delete old programs. If you have old programs that have not been used in a while, consider deleting these programs using the Add/Delete Programs options found in the Control Panel section of the Start menu. Only delete programs that are not essential to your computer's operations.
3. Delete old files. Delete files that you no longer need or use. Remember to also delete those same files in the Recycle Bin.
4. Empty the Recycle Bin. When you delete files or folders, these may be stored in the Recycle Bin. To delete individual files or folders stored in the Recycle Bin, right click on each file and choose “Delete” from the pop-up menu. To delete all contents of the Recycle Bin at once, double click on the Recycle Bin icon, and then click “Empty Recycle Bin.” Remember that once an item is deleted from the Recycle Bin, it cannot be retrieved.
5. Defragment the computer. Sometimes files become disoriented, making it more difficult for Windows to locate them as needed. Run your system’s “Disk Defragmenter” to help compress files and organize them in a way that is more easily recognized by your operating system.
6. Make sure programs are up to date. Run “Windows Update” to make sure that your operating system is up-to-date. From the Start menu, go to the Control Panel, and then click on Windows Update, a link that is usually located in the left hand corner of the Control Panel window. Microsoft will then check for the latest updates for your computer. Follow the instructions to install program and operating system updates as needed.
