The term "networking" covers a lot of territory, no matter what kind of computer is involved, from mainframes to the home c
omputer (Mac or Windows). Mac OS Panther network problems range from simple to agonizingly complex, and can be the source of tremendous frustration, so proceed carefully and do not do anything if you are not certain about the result.
Things You’ll Need:
- Mac OS Panther install disc (optional) .
Steps To Be Followed:-
- Make sure all the computers in your network, and all networked peripherals, such as printers and networked hard drives are turned on and operating correctly.
- Check that all power cables and connection cables are fully seated in their respective ports.
- After confirming all connections and proper operation of each independent device turn off all devices and "Restart" all computers.
- Open a new "Finder" window and click on your "Network" icon in the left-most pane. Often, turning all the devices off and on again will resolve the network issue.
- Start up "System Preferences" and select "Network" from the top tier of major icons, or click on its icon in the "Network & Internet" section.
- Review the resulting window, which will open up with your default ("Automatic") location selected in the top drop-down menu and "Network Status" selected in the bottom "Show" menu.
- Confirm that networking services are on by checking for a green lighted dot at the left, and the message at right that "Built-in Ethernet is currently active" at your computer's unique IP (Internet Protocol) address.
- Click on the "Show" menu and select "Built-in Ethernet" to review the settings for the tabbed selections. There are tabs for TCP/IP, PPPOE, AppleTalk, Proxies and Ethernet. Most of these settings have been made automatically by your system at one point or another, so if you do not know what values to insert, do not change them.
- Close all windows, saving only changes you were confident to make, and go to the "Finder." Select the "Go" menu and scroll down to, and click on, "Connect to Server."
- Check to see what server automatically shows up on the resulting list window. Your networking may possibly be resolved by invoking a saved location.
- Remain in the "Connect" window and click on "Browse" below the "Favourite Servers" window. You will have the option of navigating around to look for networked computers, or entering another IP address or "Local" name, if you know them.
