How To Defragment Windows Vista Using Command Prompt

One of the most common way to improve PC’s performance is to defragment it.In this article I am telling you how to defragment youTips & Tricks @ Sammyr windows vista by using command prompt(cmd).Defragmentation in Microsoft  Windows Vista, can be scheduled for any time you choose and although it does do the job it's asked of, you can't see any of the details, if you wanted or needed to. With this quick way, you can. Follow the steps given below:-

Things You’ll Need:

  • Microsoft Windows Vista operating system .

Steps To Be Followed:-

  1. I recommend completing a scan/check disk before doing this so you just aren't moving bad sectors around. Also, this is for Microsoft® Windows Vista. For XP and for checking your drive, check links below in Additional Resources.
  2. Open your cmd [command prompt]. Link on the 'how to' is located below, in Additional Resources.
  3. In your cmd, type: defrag.exe
  4. Click 'Enter' on your keyboard
  5. The defrag list will form. Make your cmd box larger, by dragging it down from the corner, so you can see all it has listed.
  6. Now, you can choose what it is you'd like to do, or you can just do what I do...it's up to you. The menu in the cmd [command prompt] will give you explanations on what each does. If you'd like to do what I do, follow through with the next steps, if not, just type which one you'd like to do. Whatever it is you decide to do, you have to type it like it says in the Syntax, which is located at the top of the menu.
  7. What I do...type: defrag.exe c: –v
  8. Click 'Enter' on your keyboard.
  9. It defrags the C drive and gives you detailed information during and after the process.
  10. There will be a time, it just 'sits there' and it seems to be doing nothing... It's working, just give it time.
  11. Depending on how many files you have, is how long it should take. It should tell you when it has completed and the details.
